This is definately my favourite piece so far!
Overall, I spent around 15 hours on this in Photoshop CS3, and it ended up with around 70 layers.
Before anyone mentions it, yeah it is meant to look like a painting. That is the outcome I intended for this piece.
Stocks used:

Everything in this image, other than the stocks used, were done completely by brushing and a few filters.

Well, after all, pre-eruption Vesuvius looked like Mount Fuji, according to some researches. And seeing how the Gran Cono is growing back, I have the impression that is a volcano that tends to be symmetric (The Gran Cono itself is pretty much symmetric).
